Green Tara Thangka | Hand-Painted Goddess of Compassion

from Lhasa

Green Tara embodies the living essence of compassion and enlightened action. Known as the “Mother of All Buddhas,” she represents both wisdom and the courage to respond swiftly to suffering. As the feminine protector who liberates beings from fear and danger, Green Tara reminds us that true compassion manifests through fearless love and active kindness.

In this thangka, Green Tara sits serenely upon a lotus throne, her radiant green form symbolizing renewal and divine energy. With one hand holding a lotus of purity and the other raised in the gesture of reassurance, she emanates calm strength and protection. The vibrant floral background reflects nature’s harmony and abundance, reinforcing her role as a nurturer of life and spiritual growth.

Hand-painted in Lhasa, Tibet, this thangka follows centuries-old Tibetan techniques. Natural mineral pigments  malachite for greens, azurite for blues, cinnabar for reds  are finely ground and layered with exquisite care. Each stroke reflects meditative focus and devotion, turning color and canvas into a living act of reverence.

Created by Lixindi, a recognized master of Tibetan intangible cultural heritage, this Green Tara Thangka reflects over thirty years of disciplined artistry.Renowned for his mastery in linework and facial rendering, Lixindis paintings are celebrated for their lifelike depth  legends say that the more vivid the face, the stronger the Buddhas blessing. Her work bridges devotion and artistry, infusing each thangka with a spirit that feels both ancient and alive.
